La maison Gattinoni a été fondée par Fernanda Gattinoni (1906-2002).

Après sa formation, dans les années 20, à Londres, Fernanda Gattinoni a travaillé à Paris avec Coco Chanel. Dans les années 1930, elle collabore à la Sartoria Ventura, basée à Milan, dont elle devient la styliste.

Après la seconde guerre mondiale, elle s’installe à Rome, où elle fonde sa propre maison.

Fernanda Gattinoni a notamment participé à l’âge d’or du cinéma italien, et a ainsi habillé des actices telles qu’Audrey Hepburn, Anna Locksmiths et Ava Gardner.
